Every year during Arba’een, men, women and children of all ages take part in the 80km walk from Najaf to Karbala (N2K). This is done by millions of people to commemorate and remember what the members of the Ahlulbayt (as) had to endure so many years ago. The walk typically lasts for anything between one to four days and is described by many as a ‘once in a lifetime experience’.

It's Eid for them too!!! The Displaced Shias of Yemen
The tremor in their voices,
the desperation in their eyes,
it doesn’t let me sleep,
the fading dignity of their lives.
Until yesterday they stood tall and sanguine
just like us.
A life, a living, a home, a family,
comfort and security, they had it all
just like us.
Never did the thought cross their minds
One day the world would see them as
asylum seekers, refugees.
Today from us they need support and compassion
As we prepare to celebrate the proverbial sacrifice of Ibrahim
and its related Eid,
Let’s vow to sacrifice our vain desires and greed
and satiate an oppressed person’s dire need
On these special days of Zilhijja, together with our hands
let’s raise our souls too.
Let self-indulgence and extravagance come under the knife
and replace it by nobility and benefaction, an impetus for life.
Let’s be an instrument of God,
humans, whom even angels want to applaud.
