Meet the Mentors on the Madinah and Bab Summer Course 2016
We are pleased to introduce you to the mentors that have been selected to accompany the Madinah and Bab group this year.
Mohammed Wechuli Were from Bilal Muslim Mission Kenya
Mohammed Were from Kenya graduated this year with a Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology from South Eastern Kenya University. He is currently working with the International Optica as an Assistant Optometrist and is looking forward towards venturing in a career related to his studies.
Mohammed says, “I am really glad to be attending this course and I expect to gain and broaden my knowledge throughout this spiritual journey. I am looking to create a strong bond with different people of different calibers from different nations, while staying focused religious wise.”
Aliya Afzalhussein Yusufali (former student in Qum)
Aaliya Afzalhussein Yusufali is originally from Tanzania and has studied at Jamiatul Zahra in Qum from 2004-2015. She has completed a course of Quranic memorisation and Tafseer. Aaliya is active in different activities which include editing and referencing Islamic content, teaching at Islamic school, and occasionally giving talks in the community.
Aaliya says, “I am looking forward to meeting girls with varying outlooks and perspectives on life. I hope to foster an environment where we can all share our life experiences and help each other become better people. I pray that through this trip and the grace of Imam Rida (as) and Sayyida Masuma (as), we all gain what we are coming for and more.”
Sukaina Mahmood Khatau from Kenya
Sukaina Khatau was born and raised in Mombasa. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree at Kenyatta University and has just completed her second year. In 2010, Sukaina attended the summer course in Iran as a Bab-al-Ilm participant and is looking forward to being a part of the course once again, this time as a mentor.
Sukaina says, "I feel highly obliged to be given this opportunity to return to Iran as a mentor. This course should be on everyone's bucket list! Words fail me when it comes to describing how it feels being in the holy cities of Qum and Mashhad in the presence of Bibi Masuma (as) and Imam Rida (as). The ambience is truly outstanding. I look forward to reliving the amazing experience and growing spiritually. I hope this course will be as interesting for those that are attending it for the first time as it was for me."
Ali Imran Rizvi from Australia
Ali Imran Rizvi is an Australian citizen and originally from Pakistan. He had migrated to Australia in 2004, initially as a student studying Masters of Business (International trade) and after several yeas settled permanently there. He is married and blessed with two sons. Ali has volunteered as a teacher in the Sunday Madressa and has found this experience very satisfying.
Ali says, “I feel blessed to have been selected to serve as one of the mentors for the 2016 summer course. It seems that spiritual journey has already begun even before travelling. Friends and relatives who have visited the shrines of our infallible Imams (as) have shared that it is hard to explain in words, it has to be experienced to completely comprehend, and I am really looking forward for it! I hope and pray it will be a spiritually satisfying experience for all participants, mentors and the organisers. I am certain this visit would prove to be life changing, and I can’t wait to be in the environment of ilm (knowledge), ma’arefat (Gnosis – mystical enlightenment), and rohaniyaat (spirituality). While I am there in Qum and Mashhad, I seek to be a humble seeker of knowledge and to attain proximity to the purified AhlulBayt (as) and the true message of the Holy Quran.”
Adeela Zahra Shah from Petersborough, UK
Adeela Zahra Shah will be graduating this summer in Business Information Technology BSc. She has a passion to study in Qum when she finishes her education InshAllah. Adeela started teaching at Madrasa after her GCSE'S for two years. She was also an active Head of Husayni Youth in 2013 and still an on-going member taking part in youth activities. She also helps out with the local youth Baligha club which runs once every month.
Adeela says, "Having been on the course as a participant two years ago, it is such an honour to go back this year as a mentor to give back what I received and InshAllah more. It is a blessing to be called back to my Mawla and Lady Masuma, not only to perform their Ziyarah but to be there for the sisters as a supportive mentor and friend. I pray that this journey will be as special and unique as my previous experience was and I hope that they make the most of every moment while I am there every step of the way. This is my journey to success, to accomplish the struggles that life throws at me, to become a better Muslim, to know how to handle life difficulties and to push for a better and brighter future. Smile at every hardship because surely after hardship comes ease!”

Aliyah Shiraz Ali Bhimani from Peterborough, UK
Aliyah Bhimani graduated from the University of Hertfordshire with a BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography and Imaging in 2013. It is through the Wasila of Imam Ali-Rida (as) and Sayyida Fatima al-Masuma (as) that she is working with her field of interest. It has allowed her to be an open ambassador of Islam in a diverse community where she happily tries her best to enlighten others to the beautiful teachings of Islam.
Aliyah has been an active member of the community from a young age with a vision of serving the followers of our Imam (ajts) in any way she can. She has taught in her local Madressa for 11 years whilst also serving as a volunteer and recently, as an active member of their English Listening Committee to provide lectures of all calibers.
Aliyah says, “Graduating from the Bab and Madinah 2014 course has left me nothing short of awe and inspiration to gently guide the future generations in their journey to seek proximity with the All-Loving. Words seem so insufficient to summarize the positive impact this experience has made to my life. The love, lessons and heartfelt advice I received on this journey of spirituality resonate within my soul even now when I find myself contemplating on the essence of life. The honour of being a mentor on this course has always been an aspiration of mine, especially to serve the youth of my Imam (atjs) in the blessed land of Imam Rida (as) and Sayyida Masuma (as) will be an absolute privilege. InshAllah, I pray that Allah (swt) grants me the opportunity to serve the young Zuwaar to the best of my ability and hope that they will benefit from any advice I have to offer. May this spectacular journey be spiritually fulfilling to them as they hope, a journey filled with smiles, love, duas, blossoming sisterhood, and so much more. May they also be inspired to return one day as a mentor”.
