Reflections by Sister Fatemah Moledina on Madinah and Bab 2014 Course

“This Journey will Undoubtedly Shape Your Future, Your faith, and Your decisions”

My decision to attend the Madinah and Bab course was spontaneous. Having made the decision to apply, I prayed to the Almighty (SWT) to allow me to visit His Holy Imam Ar-Redha and Sayyeda Masuma (AS) once again.

Having received my confirmation my heart skipped a beat, realizing what I was leaving behind, but knowing that I was going for a greater cause which will allow me to develop as a person. Taking the plunge to once again travel by myself – I knew I could never turn down an invitation from our Holy Imam, known to be the most kind, and the most caring.

It would be impossible for me to list all the places we saw, the things we did and the people we met in the span of three weeks, It would also be impossible for me to express the feelings and spiritual connections I formed whilst in Mashhad and in Qum. But one thing that I can express is the solidarity and sisterhood formed throughout the trip. As an introvert, it takes me some time to get comfortable in my surroundings but I was pleasantly surprised to find that my hesitation prior to the trip was in vain. The mentors and participants from both the Bab and Madinah made this easy for us, with regular reflection circles and intimate discussions about our experiences late night at the Haram or just in our dorms. We were all able to exchange feelings, mutual and different, gain a greater understanding of each other as believers.

It's often that many are skeptical about attending a trip for three weeks in an unknown location with a contrasting lifestyle. But I think it is these particular qualities that build you as a person. Sometimes being placed in situations you wouldn't normally face allows you to grow as a person, develop your skills and gain greater insight into your own personality and faith. I know that myself and many of the young ladies that attended the trip have all gone home with a new life perspective, humbled and astonished with the feelings they've felt and amount they've seen over the past three weeks; all of which is solely down to the new and unique lifestyle we have had the opportunity to experience, and the amazing people we have connected with. So I would say, regardless of your fears or personality, whether you have heard of the trip or not, it's definitely an experience of a lifetime. From the people you meet, to the cuisine you try and the lifestyle you live and the spiritual connections you make, it will undoubtedly shape you for your future, your faith and your decisions.
