Heading towards Bibi Masumah (sa)’s Haram for Salaatul Layl and Fajr Jamaat was incomparable to any other morning. Upon completing my Salaatul Layl and Fajr Jamaat Namaaz we proceeded towards my Bibi (s.a) to recite her Ziyaraat, following all etiquettes.

The World Federation’s India Office along with Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Jamaat Mumbai organised a vacation competition for students by the name of IQRA. The competition was also supported by: Al Muntazar Tours, Al Raza Tours, As Serat Tours, Channel WIN and Jafari Propogation Centre.
The competition was organised during the month of May, which is the time for summer vacation, which enables the participants to make the best use of their free time. It was open to boys of Mumbai City and was divided into three age groups: 6 to 10, 11 to 16 and 17 to 25 years. Total participants were 313 from the 7 major centres i.e. Dongri, Bandra, Andheri, Mumbra, Mira Road, Vasai and Kurla.
The basic criterion was the recitation of selected Surahs, Duas, Ziarat and Adhaan as per the proper Arabic Makhraj and Lehen. The curriculum was divided into modules depending on the Age Groups. Centrewise tests were conducted in the last week of May 2014 and the winners of each module had to compete with each other on 15th June 2014 at KSI Masjid, Dongri.
Support lectures by experienced Qaris were provided once a week at all centres. In total there were 6 Qaris who were providing service to all centres around Mumbai in the month of May.
Winners from each centre were awarded Cash prizes and were qualified for the FINAL round of contest. The top 3 winners from Mumbai were awarded Ziarat Package to Mashad and Qum. Winners from each centre also get a chance to recite on Channel WIN.

As I contemplate on how to pen down my experience as a mentor for the recently concluded WF girls’ youth course, my thoughts run to the time when I was a little girl and yearned to go out and explore the world, similar to these girls who were bubbling with exuberance, vitality and an insatiable thirst for learning new things. My mentoring experience to these girls was exhilarating and a source of enlightenment.
