On Sunday 28th July 2024, for the very first time, The MCE facilitated 3 training programs on the same day in 3 regions across the world; Spiritual Development Programme (SDP) in Arusha (AFED), Teacher Skills Program (TSP) in Montreal (NASIMCO) and Tarbiyah Curriculum Training (CT), at WF House in Harefield (CoEJ).

It was our honour to have the CT training translated into BSL (British Sign language) by Sr Sukaina Railey (BSL Communicator). This is the first training held by MCE, facilitated in this way!

Since 2019, MCE has been running the Spiritual Development Programme (SDP), a highly effective training programme for Madrasah teachers. The SDP combines modern interactive teaching methods with classical Islamic scholarship, providing practical advice to enhance teachers’ spirituality and make a positive impact on their students.

The course is filled with practical tips, relatable examples, inspirational stories from the lives of pious individuals, and reflections on selected Qur’anic verses and traditions.

To date, 10 SDP sessions have been conducted, successfully training 232 teachers.

The most recent training was held in Arusha, Tanzania, over the weekend of 27th-28th July, with 20 participants completing the programme.

Four more SDP sessions are scheduled to take place in East Africa in the coming weeks:

• Dar es Salaam: 6th -8th August

• Mombasa: 10th-11th and 13th-14th August

•Nairobi: 17th-18th August

Shaykh Mohammed Ali Ismail will be facilitating the SDP sessions in Dar es Salaam, Mombasa and Nairobi during the month of August.

Founded and headed by Syed Ali Naqvi, the Teacher Skills Programme (TSP) is aimed at increasing the skills of teachers, shifting their attitudes and behaviours so that they may be better able to support the learning of the students in the Madrasah. In 2020, TSP was accredited by the Northern Council of Further Education (NCFE) in the UK.

Facilitated by Syed Ali Naqvi and Sr Shehnaz Somji, 34 participants attended a 2-full day training of TSP on 27th-28th July and are working towards Micro Teach. The participants were engaged and passionate learners and have shared great feedback of their experience. Several other teachers have come forward, expressing their interest to participate in the next TSP wherever it may be held. An overall amazing experience.

The Tarbiyah Curriculum Training programme is designed for teachers who are new to the curriculum.

Highlights of this training session include:

• An insight into the background of its development, its defining features and core ethos

• Understanding the integrated approach to teaching as well as learner-centred lessons

• Using engaging, interesting and interactive activities

• Teachers’ participation in a demo lesson, so they can observe how a lesson can be taught in the classroom and learn from the different processes used

The training culminates in a half-day microteach session where the teachers are given an opportunity to present part of a lesson to their peers.

Facilitated by Sr Sajeeda Virani and Sr Zulekha Hirji, 30 participants shared their teaching experience and went on a journey of discovery and explored different teaching styles around the effective implementation of the Tarbiyah Curriculum. The Bands C-F demo lesson, was fantastically  facilitated by Sr Sabiha Chandoo, who we thank for dedicating her time.

On behalf of The World Federation and MCE, we would like to express our gratitude to Sr. Sukaina Railey, a BSL Communicator, for her time and dedication in interpreting the entire training session into British Sign Language (BSL) for one of our Deaf participants.

This was a pioneering effort, and we look forward to continuing to adapt and enhance our training programs to meet the diverse needs of all our participants, InshaAllah, making them accessible and inclusive for everyone.
