Covid Emergency Appeal

Earlier this year, The World Federation launched an urgent global emergency appeal to support our global community members through the COVID-19 pandemic. The illness is still spreading, with different areas getting new case surges as the days go by.

Since we launched our appeal in April, we have been working consistently with our Regional Federations to provide ongoing support in the way they need it most.

Due to the overwhelming support of our global community, we have been able to do things such as facilitating the establishment of rehabilitation and isolation units, provide personal protective equipment (PPE), testing kits, and medical equipment to our Regional Federations to distribute, and support our community members financially where needed. Many of our global community have lost their livelihoods due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns and restrictions and your support has allowed us to reach families in far-reaching areas all over East, South-East, and Central Africa, as well as across Europe, North America, and in India and Pakistan.

An example of the impact your donations have made is the new wing which was built at the Ebrahim Haji Health Centre. This new wing was facilitated by KSIJ Dar-es-Salaam and was created for immediate use as a rehabilitation unit for up to 60 patients. Essential equipment such as ventilators, oxygen manifolds, flow meters, and cardiac monitors were purchased and installed at the new wing, adjacent to the existing health centre. Going forward, post COVID, this new wing will be used as a maternity and paediatric facility as well as a general ward, resulting in a long term impact on the local community.

In India, a COVID-19 awareness and check-up camp was held in Gujarat, which aimed to raise awareness of the pandemic amongst our community members who then had medical checks by healthcare professionals and received personal protective equipment, such as face masks and gloves. Psychological experts also spoke to patients who had suffered from mental health issues due to the severity of the lockdown situation in various states in India.

Through your donations, we were also able to purchase personal protective equipment, which our regional federation, NASIMCO, then distributed amongst our community in North America. We have been working with each of our regional federations to assess the needs in each region and provide the necessary support.

This project is still ongoing as we continue to meet the needs of our global community amidst the ever-changing situation. We will be sharing a more detailed report in the coming weeks where you will be able to see more about the impact you’ve had on our global community through these difficult times.
